This evergreen course provides a comprehensive overview of personal tax topics within the context of T1 personal tax return preparation. However, it is presented with the non-practitioner in mind. That is, the course does not drill down into the minute details and complex issues that practitioners deal with on a daily basis in practice. Instead, a general approach is used with enough details provide to give you a solid understanding of the tax concepts.

This course is great for accountants and other financial professionals working in industry or government who would like a good review of personal tax issues and concepts. The course also focuses on high risk areas of tax and reviews with particular emphasis given to assessment and review policies of the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) in the personal tax realm. In particular, we will dive into the common areas of reviews by the CRA once returns have been processed along with the current landscape of audits and reviews by the CRA in the real estate and rental landscape and the effect on personal tax filing.

Best efforts have been made to make the course relevant by examining personal tax preparation in the context of family situations instead of just reciting tax rules in a linear format. In short, this is a practical, real-world hands on approach to reviewing these concepts. A general knowledge of personal tax concepts is assumed throughout the course.
